For my first media report, I am going to go somewhere a little different. This is a very brief thinkpiece on the inner workings of individual people and what we can do to support the diversity effort out of the 'Idaho State Journal.' This piece, written by Pastor Jenny Peek, is interesting because it has someone taking the small-scale way to solve diversity issues. They claim that instead of righting every wrong that's been done and viewing diversity as a problem to be solved, they believe that it is a societal obstacle to be overcome, and they believe a group effort of extending our immediate love to a wider array of people within our communities, and modeling ourselves after those model diverse communities, can help us achieve a higher understanding of every person, allowing for diversity to be less of an issue. Now, this piece is written by someone who admits to never have been impacted negatively by diversity in her white, straight life, but it allows for her to say this important thing. I will say that small thinking can be dangerous when encountering a problem of this proportion, but the fact that she is attempting to energize the people in her state to be more caring to every group is unceasingly important. As always, there is still more work to do.
